چکیده

Collisions in overlapping channels can be a major problem in thedeployment of high-speed OFDM networks. In this paper, we presentRemap, a simple, novel paradigm for handling collisions in over-lapping OFDM channels. Remap introduces a novel concept ofretransmission permutation that permutes the bit-to-subcarrier as-signment after each transmission, departing from the traditional,simply-repeat paradigm. Remap is simple to implement and ableto exploit collision-free subcarriers to decode frames despite suc-cessive collisions in overlapping channels. We apply Remap to802.11g to demonstrate that the diversity created by remapped framescan substantially improve decoding efficiency and improve wire-less throughput. We implement our technique in software radioand demonstrate that it has potential to be deployed with simplesoftware and firmware updates.

On the Existence of Retransmission Permutation Arrays

We investigate retransmission permutation arrays (RPAs) that are motivated by applications in overlapping channel transmissions. An RPA is an n × n array in which each row is a permutation of {1, . . . , n}, and for 1 6 i 6 n, all n symbols occur in each i × ⌈

Constructions for retransmission permutation arrays

Li, Liu, Tan, Viswanathan, and Yang [3] introduced a technique for resolving overlapping channel transmissions that used an interesting new type of combinatorial structure. In connection with this problem, they provided an example of a 4× 4 array having certain desirable properties. We define a class of combinatorial structures, which we term retransmission permutation arrays, that generalise t...

Hybrid ARQ Scheme with Antenna Permutation for MIMO Systems in Slow Fading Channels

In this paper, an equivalent model for the hybrid automatic retransmission request (HARQ) multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems with a proper combining scheme is first introduced. Based on this effective model, we present a simple technique, termed antenna permutation scheme (APS), which permutates the transmit antennas at each retransmission to improve the diversity gain from retransmissions...

MAC Layer Multicast Protocol to Increase Reliability in WLANs

Reliable multicast is difficult to achieve in CSMA/CA networks when multiple multicast and unicast senders compete for the medium. We propose a leader based priority ring multicast protocol (LPRMP) to increase reliability in wireless LANs. The algorithm is specifically tailored to accommodate a large number of legacy stations in multiple overlapping cells since the LPRMP solution only requires ...

Retransmission-Based Distributed Video Streaming with a Channel-Adaptive Packet Scheduler

This paper describes a channel-adaptive packet scheduler for improved error control performance in a peer-cooperative distributed media streaming system. The proposed packet-scheduling algorithm was designed for the case in which streaming server peers rely on an errorrecovery strategy using retransmission and application-layer automatic repeat request rather than error protection using forward...
